Photography Approach and Challenges: Okaloosa Gas District Administration Building

Angles & Composition
For the Okaloosa Gas District Administration building, SB Visual focused on capturing the striking geometry and structural presence of this modern facility. The compositions were specifically framed to highlight Robins Morton’s precise construction, emphasizing the clean lines and heavy-duty materials that define the district’s headquarters. Wide-angle shots were utilized to showcase the building’s expansive footprint and its command over the site, while mid-range perspectives captured the rhythmic balance between the solid structural masses and the transparent glass segments.

Natural Light Management
The building’s orientation and materiality required a strategic approach to natural light. SB Visual utilized the clear Florida sky to accentuate the contrast between the building's exterior cladding and its metallic finishes. By scheduling sessions during the "golden hours," we were able to cast long, soft shadows that gave the façade a sense of three-dimensional depth, highlighting the craftsmanship of the masonry and the sleekness of the modern architectural accents.

Shooting Through Glass and Reflective Surfaces
The extensive glazing by Hanssen Glass was a focal point of the project, posing both a visual opportunity and a technical challenge. To manage the high-performance glass surfaces, SB Visual employed polarizing filters and precise camera heights to control glare. This allowed us to either emphasize the sky’s reflection on the building’s "skin" or minimize it to reveal the interior structural framework. The result is a series of images that celebrate the transparency and openness of the administration building’s design.

Detail & Material Emphasis
Close-up architectural studies were conducted to highlight the seamless integration of materials. We focused on the junctions where Hanssen Glass systems met the structural work of Robins Morton, showcasing the tight tolerances and high-end finishes. These detail shots document the collaboration between the construction and glazing teams, resulting in a refined portfolio that celebrates the durability and forward-thinking design of the Okaloosa Gas District’s new home.
